It’s Not A Big Chance Missed, Says Proud Doswell

Despite twice squandering a lead, Sutton United manager Paul Doswell took pride in the point earned at Aldershot - a side he says are the best footballing team in the Vanarama National League.

In a thrilling first half at the EBB Stadium, the sides shared four goals and that’s the way it stayed in front of over 2,200 spectators.

Doswell wasn’t frustrated by what could have been - even though side side went 1-0 and 2-1 ahead in Hampshire.

“My view is that Aldershot are the best footballing team in the league and we have come here and give a very good account of ourselves,” he told the National League’s Oli Osborn following the game.

“I don’t see it as two points lost. If I was offered this point and this performance before kick off I would have taken it.

“Sure, there’s disappointment because we lead twice but there were two excellent teams out there. We could have sat back but we have given it a real go.

“Other sides have come here and sat back against Aldershot because they are so good at what they do, but we didn’t,” he added.

“I think our fans who have travelled to see us play will be proud that a club like Sutton United can now come to places like this and put on such a performance.

“That’s our seventh game undefeated now and we are seeing the confidence grow because of it.”
