As pre-season begins to draw to a close, Tom Scott take's another look at how our sides’ preparations are going ahead of the season opener on August 4.

St Albans City had a goal glut against Wingate and Finchley with two goals either side of half-time for the Saints.

Tom Bender headed the away side in front after just five minutes before new signing Ralston Gabriel doubled City’s lead just after the half-hour mark.

After the break, two substitutes made their contributions. First, Sam Merson volleyed home after his first shot was blocked from a corner. Just five minutes later, Khale Da Costs completed the rout with a fine finish.

Ilkeston were hit for six by York City despite the Minstermen falling behind in Derbyshire.

The visitors responded well to the early blow – Jake Wright levelled before Simon Heslop and Alex Kempster extended York’s lead before the break.

Martin Gray’s men continued to run riot after the interval, Jake Wright getting his second four minutes into the second-half. A penalty from Jordan Burrow made it five before youngster Coleby Shepherd got his first goal for the club to make it six.

Lee Bradbury said his Havant and Waterlooville were ‘fantastic’ against AFC Wimbledon as they signed off their pre-season with a 4-1 win.

Alfie Rutherford scored a brace either side of Theo Lewis’ strike. The highlight however was Nicke Kabamba’s first goal for the Hawks.

Guiseley played out a seven-goal thriller at home to Leeds United on Thursday night. Paul Clayton and Reece Thompson put the Lions two up, but Leeds would eventually go 4-2 up in the second-half.

Curtis Morrison bagged a consolation for the hosts, but it wasn’t enough for the Nethermoor Park outfit.

Lewes scored three second-half goals without reply against Eastbourne Borough as Sports signed off pre-season with a 3-0 defeat on the road.

Maidenhead were denied a win by League One Wycombe Wanderers after Ryan Bird gave the Magpies a first-half lead.

Gavin Cowan’s Telford side took a trip to the Welsh coast and came away with a 1-0 win courtesy of summer arrival James McQuilkin.
