It's Friendly Fire! Tuesday Night's Pre-Season Review

By Sam Elliott

Ten days to go until the new season is underway and the tension is building for our teams. Tom Scott takes a look at how our sides fared in another round of warm-up games.

Hemel Hempstead perhaps got the result of the night - beating Watford 3-2 at Vauxhall Road thanks to an impressive Sanchez Watt brace and a Spencer McCall penalty.

Guiseley also got a decent result, beating Championship side Bolton Wanderers at Nethermoor Park.

The Lions continued their fine form in July with a 3-1 result courtesy of goals from Alex Purver, Curtis Morrison and Reece Thompson.

Jack Hindle, pictured, scored a superb hat-trick to help Barrow to a 5-0 win against Lancaster City. Josh Kay and an own goal completed the scoring for Ian Evatt’s side.

Weston-super-Mare were rampant as they put four past a young Cheltenham side. Jamie Lucas scored either side of Gethyn Hill and Jarrad Welch in a 4-1 win.

Jamie Vermiglio’s Chorley slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to play-off winners Tranmere Rovers at Victory Park.

Josh Koroma’s seventh Leyton Orient goal of pre-season was cancelled out by Sam Mersons’ penalty for St Albans and the game finished a goal each.

Solihull Moors continued their remarkable summer form against a strong Burton Albion team. Tim Flowers’ men won a five-goal thriller 3-2 thanks to goals from Adi Yussuf, Jamey Osbourne and Danny Wright.

Eastleigh’s preparations took a bad turn against League One Gillingham. The Spitfires have had a decent pre-season so far but went down 4-0 to the Gills.

Ebbsfleet stunned Cambridge with a late strike each from Danny Kedwell and Myles Weston to steal victory from the visitors who led for most of the second-half.

A poor first half from Boreham Wood consigned them to defeat against Slough Town. James Dobson, Ben Harris and Sam Togwell were all on target for the Rebels.

Boston United led at home against Lincoln through Jonathan Wafula’s early strike but lost 4-1 to the Imps – including a brace from Bruno Andrade for the visitors.

Danny Rowe gave AFC Fylde an early lead against neighbours Blackpool, but the Seasiders stole a draw in the last minute.

A brilliant Nathan Lowe free-kick earned Southport a 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley. Wrexham played out the same result against champions Macclesfield.

Chester and Morecambe shared second-half penalties in a 2-2 draw at the Swansway. Steve Howson got the home side level in the first-half before a Gary Roberts penalty rescued a draw three minutes from time.

Curzon Ashton got a second pre-season win, beating Stalybridge Celtic 3-2 thanks to goals from Connor Hughes, Michael Clarke and Mason Fawns.

A late Hyde United goal wasn’t enough to stop FC United of Manchester claim another away win – goals from Liam Dickinson and Kurt Willoughby wrapped up a 2-1 win for Tom Greaves’ men.

Spennymoor Town claimed a 3-1 win at Willington, Stockport County won 4-1 at Warrington and an experimental Dulwich Hamlet side went down 3-0 at Hornchurch.

Simon Weaver said his side looked ‘a little bit leggy’ in Harrogate’s first pre-season defeat – going down 2-1 to Scarborough.

New Dover signing Tim Schmoll helped the Whites to a 1-0 win over Welling. The former New York Red Bulls man went straight into a winning side thanks to a Jamie Allen goal in the first-half.

Steve Watson was pleased with his Gateshead side but bemoaned his sides bad luck in their goalless draw with Scottish side Livingston.

Braintree dominated their game against Coggeshall Town and left with a 1-0 win in the end after a first-half Mustafa Tariki goal.

Barnet manager John Still said his side’s lack of goals doesn’t concern him as his Bees side went down 3-0 to Northampton.

Dan Ball and John Mills gave Bath City their sixth friendly win as they beat Evesham, a squad full of Blyth Spartans trialists slipped to a 4-2 defeat to Whitley Bay and Nuneaton Borough played out a goalless draw with local side Coalville Town.
