It's FA Trophy Time Again As Wembley Trip Draws Closer

By Sam Elliott

The focus falls on the FA Trophy for the first weekend of 2025 - and there’s some fantastic ties in prospect.

The cups are kicking off early in the New Year, with Tamworth and Dagenham & Redbridge little over a week away from their huge FA Cup third round ties.

But before all that, there’s another competition to grab the attention - and Wembley is already starting to appear in the distance.

Gateshead are the holders and if their 8-1 thumping of Farsley Celtic is anything to go by, the Heed are determined to retain their trophy.

Home draws always help, and Boston United make the trip up to the International Stadium this weekend looking to spark their season into life.

It’s not always the big names that end up spraying champagne on the hallowed turf, just asked Brackley Town or Hornchurch.

So Kidderminster and Slough Town will be dreaming when they meet, with Weymouth - who beat rivals Yeovil Town in the last round - welcoming Boreham Wood.

National League leaders York City will be well aware of Gainsborough Trinity's great cup record this year and it is sure to be a tricky trip to Lincolnshire.

Stockton beat Oldham Athletic in the last round and Rochdale are next in the firing line. Jimmy McNulty has warned his players they will need to be at their best on Saturday to avoid going the same way as the Latics.

Tamworth warm up for Tottenham Hotspur with a trip to Sutton United while Woking, who have a rich FA Trophy tradition, are at home to Radcliffe.

Could Southend United go all the way? Their fans would love to trip to Wembley, but Southport are in good form in the National League North.

Chertsey beat Dagenham last time out so Aldershot Town will take them lightly at their peril.

Worthing look to make the most of their reprieve by sending Torquay United packing as Chorley head to Forest Green Rovers.

Elsewhere fancied National League sides meet as Altrincham welcome Barnet with Oxford City on their travels at Biggleswade and Salisbury at Sittingbourne.

It's a trip to Basford United next for Eastleigh with a North v South tie as Spennymoor Town make the long trip to London to take on Hampton & Richmond.

Winning clubs receive a cheque for £5,250, with defeated sides earning £1,500 for the prize fund.

Fourth round ties:
Aldershot Town v Chertsey
Kidderminster Harriers v Slough Town
Rochdale v Stockton
Altrincham v Barnet
Worthing v Torquay United
Biggleswade v Oxford City
Sittingbourne v Salisbury
Forest Green Rovers v Chorley
Woking v Radcliffe
Sutton United v Tamworth
Gainsborough v York City
Basford United v Eastleigh
Weymouth v Boreham Wood
Gateshead v Boston United
Hampton & Richmond v Spennymoor Town
Southend United v Southport
