It's A Joint Effort: Your Team Of The Weekend Confirmed

By Sam Elliott

Always looking for a solution to every little issue, we’ve managed to find one with the Team of the Weekend.

With the FA Trophy meaning a number of National League games were off, the weather soon hit meaning the programme this weekend was suitably reduced.

We couldn’t let our star men go without recognition - so there was only one thing for it!

Thanks to some help from usual sources, we have managed to piece together a joint Team of the Weekend.. including stand out players from the National League, FA Trophy, National League North and National League South.

We’ve gone for a 4-3-3 this weekend - helped of course by some goalscoring defenders.

It’s back to normal next week, but needs must this Monday - make sure you join the debate on twitter @TheNationalLge

Team of the Weekend:

Goalkeeper: Jonathan North (Wealdstone)
The Stones made hard work of Warrington but they were never getting an easy ride. Their goalkeeper was once again absolutely outstanding, really rising to the occasion.

Defender: George Elokobi (Leyton Orient)

Not a defensive performance to be proud of by Leyton Orient at Dover but Elokobi at least helped with a goal.

Defender: Rhys Sharpe (Tamworth)
We all know York have great attacking players but Sharpe made sure the Minstermen weren’t going home with three National League North points.

Defender: Shaun Pearson (Wrexham)
Arguably the signing of the summer was in imperious form for the new National League leaders at Guiseley. Grabbed himself a goal too.

Defender: Sean McGinty (Torquay)
Another net-finding defender but he was outstanding at both ends as the Gulls threw themselves a relegation lifeline against Barrow.

Midfielder: Joe Wheatley (Darlington)
It was a much-needed three points for Darlington and although there were a number of great performances, Joe Wheatley controlled the middle of the park in the big derby with Blyth.

Midfielder: Adam Walker (Brackley Town)
The same could be said of Brackley, where every man stood up to Sutton United. Walker, though, was excellent from start to finish in the FA Trophy.

Midfielder: Ryan Broom (Eastleigh)
He’s making a name for himself at the Silverlake - and two goals against AFC Fylde sees him walk into the Team of the Weekend.

Striker: Sam Merson (St Albans)
Not a bad seven days. Four goals against East Thurrock, a great new contract and two more against leaders Dartford.

Striker: James Norwood (Tranmere)
His brace against Ebbsfleet saw Rovers chip away at the sides about them in the National League table. Norwood is in his best form for years.

Striker: Ky Marsh-Brown (Whitehawk)
His hat-trick against Weston has earned him a place in the side - but his simply stunning first goal earns him the captain’s armband!

Substitutes:
Jake Jessup (Chelmsford City)
Frankie Artus (Bath City)
Tom Elliott (Nuneaton)
Femi Akinwande (Concord Rangers)
Gavin McCallum (Eastbourne Borough)
