However, a 1-1 draw leaves the Saints in third and the Rocks a place lower.
It was the visitors who had the first real effort on goal in the 10th minute when Rhys Murrell-Williamson fired an effort from 25 yards that home `keeper Lukas Lidakevicius tipped away.
But, just 2 minutes later, St Albans did grab the opener when Murrell-Williamson raced in behind Reece Harris and beat Lidakevicius low to his left.
Little had been seen of the home side`s attack, but they gradually got a grip on the game and caused problems for the Saints defence.
And they equalised 9 minutes before half-time when Marvin Ekpiteta’s shot was deemed to have hit Layne Eadie on the hand and a penalty was awarded which the reliable Sam Higgins duly converted.
East Thurrock made a good start to the second period and visiting `keeper Dean Snedker did well to save from Montel Agyemang and Lewis Smith and Lee Burns also had presentable chances which they missed.
But, in the end, the points were shared.
