Driver had been in charge of the Iron since taking over from Danny Searle in the summer.
After starting the season with three defeats, Driver looked to be getting things right at Cressing Road but his decision comes with the club winless in four games.
The former Leiston boss took to his personal Twitter account to thank the club and their supporters.
"It is with a heavy heart that I have today decided to resign from my position as manager of Braintree Town Football Club with immediate effect," he wrote.
"I would like to thank Mr Lee Harding for the opportunity he gave me to manage a club at Step 2.
"I would also like to say thank you to the players for their support and efforts since the day I took over.
"I leave the club two points outside the play offs and with a squad that has proven it can compete at this level.
"I wish the club all the very best for the rest of the season."
