Callum Howe stabbed the visitors in front from close range in the 48th minute and then Mark Yates added another four minutes later.
Jack Munns got one back in the 90th minute but it was too little, too late to ruin Hill's afternoon.
"Let's get things into perspective: we've got eight players injured, six of those eight started the first game of the season," he said. "It's a credit to the players that came in today. I've got my head of recruitment and first team coach on the bench. That's how desperate the situation is with injuries.
"You've got to pay credit to the squad and also the chairman, who has allowed me to spend a few more quid than he would have liked, to still be able to put a team out like we have today."
And on his half-time team talk that sent Eastleigh flying out of the blocks in the second half, he said: "It's not repeatable. Believe it or not I'm not the type of manager that goes around shouting and screaming, lots of people think I am but I'm not.
"They were told collectively that it wasn't an acceptable performance. I don't think it was not them working hard, the tempo wasn't great and we weren't good in possession.
"But we got a break at the start of the first-half and it's nothing more than what we deserved, not just for today but for the last few weeks."
