If You Can't Beat Him, Sign Him! Allen Adds An Old Foe

Chesterfield have added a former National League champion to help get their season on track - and he's got history of getting under the skin of his new manager!

Midfielder Jonathan Smith has agreed to join from Stevenage on a three-month loan deal.

The Spireites are without a win in eight matches, losing six but have drawn their last two against Dover and Dagenham.

Manager Martin Allen, who lost Sam Wedgebury to long-term injury in August, has looked to plug the gaping hole the former Macclesfield player has left.

Allen wrote on the club’s wesbite: “Over the years he's a player who's annoyed me and frustrated me and he's not someone I've liked.

“He's very competitive, full-on committed and plays with passion and desire.

“I suppose it's these traits that I've loved and hated at the same time when he's been in opposing teams. Things have had to change.”

Chesterfield hope the tide will turn when they face Gateshead at home on Saturday.
