“I'm not too concerned – I would be concerned if the players weren't putting in a shift,” said the manager after the game.

“I see the progression in us, which I knew was going to happen with a new group of players, with how late some of the players came in.

"We were going to have problems, and the ship wasn't going to be sailing as calmly as it was last year,” he told the News and Mail.

Barrow lost to Dagenham on the first day of the season and Cox needs more when his team are at home again this weekend and take on Woking.

The lost to Tranmere Rovers 3-1 on Tuesday evening but did get the better of Gateshead on the first game.

“We need to get our first win on the board as quickly as possible,” he said.
