Howell Knows Where Sports Are Falling Short

Eastbourne Borough manager Jamie Howell knows where his side are going wrong - and is determined to fix the problem.

The Sports’ 3-2 loss at home to Bath City on Saturday means it’s three back-to-back defeats for the club who have seen play-off hopes suffer a recent set-back.

Howell’s interview with Eastbourne Borough’s Sports News gave clues to where they are falling short.

The Priory Lane boss knows his hands are tied bringing players in but says the current crop must stop gifting teams goals.

“I think there are positives to take,” he said. “I know that seems hard to comprehend but in the first half we did show effort and desire.

“But ultimately set pieces and an own goal has been our undoing. Their second goal killed us - it’s a soft goal. Every goal we are giving away it seems the opposition don’t need to work hard for.

“I have a problem. We have people here who have been here for a long time and we need new faces. We have a budget and we have to work within those constraints.

“I know what needs to be fixed, but it has been harder than I thought to resolve.”

But Howell says unity is the only was Eastbourne will push themselves up the table.

“We need to stick together in the the changing room and be a positive force,” he said. “We are going to build from here. I have a clear idea in my head what needs to happen.”
