Matt Crabb is back at Priory Lane as the Sports confirm he is to head up the club’s development side.
Crabb played more than 500 games in over a decade on the south coast and is loved by the club’s supporters.
They hope his arrival can lift the club for Saturday’s home FA Cup tie against Slough Town.
The fans may not have enjoyed Eastbourne’s 4-2 home defeat to Torquay United so much last weekend.
But manager Howell isn’t panicking that his side have shipped 13 goals in their past four matches.
“Saturday was difficult but we have to try and take the positives,” said the Borough boss.
“Our backline are very young and although Torquay scores four we have to remember their age.
“There were a lot of plus points. We haven’t got a lot of numbers so we’re certainly not downbeat.”
