Chairman Peter Griffin took a more relaxed approach but he too was wary of a demanding second season with results and performances below par.

Less than a month after making his glum prediction, the Stripes have won four games.

Now, they are looking towards the top seven after a first half romp on Saturday against FC Halifax Town.

Devonshire said: “We’ve done really well these past few weeks and the players have got to take a lot of credit for that.

“On Saturday it was a very good performance, first half scoring three goals like that and blow them away was pleasing. To win 3-0 against a strong side was great.

“We looked really positive in attack and I don’t think our keeper has had a serious save to make.

“There’s a lot more to come and we’re coming into form at a good time.”
