Hornby Loaned To Chester Until New Year

By Steve Whitney

Chester FC have taken goalkeeper Sam Hornby on a month`s loan from SkyBet League Two side Port Vale.

The 22-year-old joined the Valiants in the summer following a spell at Burton Albion and he has made a handful of appearances at Vale Park so far this season.

Hornby had a very successful loan spell with Brackley Town in the National League North in 2015/16, being named their player of the season.

The 2016/17 campaign followed with another impressive loan spell at beaten National League North play-off semi-fnalists Kidderminster Harriers.

Honrby`s initial loan spell at Chester will run until January 7th 2018.

As Hornby arrives, Chester say goodbye to fellow goalkeepers Conor Mitchell and Nathan Vaughan, who have left the club.

Mitchell joined on loan from Premier League Burnley on the day of the opening League fixture against AFC Fylde and went on to make eight appearances.

Former Kidderminster and Solihull Moors favourite Vaughan leaves the club without making an appearance at the Swansway.

Nevertheless, his experience and professionalism around the dressing room has been a positive factor throughout his short time with the club after he stepped in at a time when Chester were faced with a mini crisis in that department.
