Home Is Not Where The Heart Is Lately For Gateshead

Steve Watson wants Gateshead to get back to what they do best at home as quickly as possible.

The Heed Army are so impressive on their travels, winning at Barrow, Chesterfield and Ebbsfleet in their last three away matches.

But at home it’s a totally different story.

Three defeats on the spin at the International Stadium has left the club ruing a missed chance to force their way into the promotion places.

Over the years the North East has been a challenge to go to and local boy Watson wants the fear factor to return.

They get that opportunity straight away as struggling Dagenham - with just one away win so far - pay them a visit on Saturday.

“We need to go back to what it was which made us strong here,” said the manager.

“We need to be a lot better on the ball, because we weren’t on Saturday against Eastleigh.

“We have a lot of creativity in the side and we have got to start to take matches by the scuff of neck more.

“We need to be in charge of games at home as well as away if we want to stay in and around the top places.

“At the moment we aren’t doing enough at home and we need to put that right quickly.”
