The Fleet boss refused to be in a sombre mood despite the heartbreak in the final few seconds at Gander Green Lane.
Instead he kept things firmly in perspective after his team turned their season around since his arrival.
It was only their second defeat in 15 matches under his charge so anyone expecting the manager to bring his players into line were in the wrong place.
“I’m not going to go into that changing room to take the paint off the walls,” he said. “They’ve been incredible since I came to the club.
“We’ve lost, maybe we didn’t deserve to, but we’ll win games maybe we don’t deserve to at some point.
“Let’s remember a few things. We’ve had a squad of 24 reduced to 17 in the past few months. There has been a backroom team of nine reduced to four. These things have happened for a reason.
“Sutton are going very well. We showed a lot of quality, played good football with a good tempo.”
He added: “When you reduce an excellent side to next to nothing but lose so late then you just accept it’s not your day sometimes.
“They hadn’t had a corner in the second half until their goal but what can you say? I’m not going to have a go at the players. They’ve been magnificent.”
