Hignett: Pools Not Far Away From Being In Promotion Mix

Craig Hignett believes his Hartlepool United side almost have what it takes to challenge next season.

Sitting in mid-table, this is the Pools' second season in the National League after dropping from the EFL in 2017.

And whilst this season hasn't been what anyone at the club hoped for, Hignett knows it won't take much to change that.

“We aren’t near where I want us to be – halfway in this division isn’t where we want to be,” he said in an interview with the Hartelpool Mail.
“But we aren’t miles away from it or eight or nine players away from it. Maybe three or four, but not eight or nine."

It's been a solid start from the new boss since he took the reigns from Richard Money last month and they're unbeaten in four.

And whilst a play-off place looks unlikely this season, Hignett is confident his start as boss is a sign of things to come.

“It’s been a good start. The lads have been really good it the four games," he said.

"Being honest, we should have had more points than the eight we have got.

“Our aim is not to look at the play-offs, but just go into every game thinking we can win and see where it ends.

"We look a threat, look solid. It’s all about building, if not this year then next.”
