Hignett has been tasked with improving the Pools' National League fortunes after the departure of Richard Money.
Previously in a director of football role at The Super 6 Stadium, the manager knows all about the strides forward the club is making off the field.
But all that means nothing, says Hignett, if he doesn't start to pick up points.
"Nothing will change unless we win games," he said in an interview with the Hartlepool Mail.
"The club is unrecognisable behind the scenes but we need results on the field. Results are what matter.
"As soon as we can get that going the better. If we win more games than we lose then people will start to be happier with things."
Hignett's job doesn't get any easier this weekend as his side host Leyton Orient looking for back-to-back league wins for the first time since September.
