Hessenthaler Refuses To Have A Pop At Dover Players

Andy Hessenthaler refused to have a go at his players despite a shot-shy display at Maidenhead.

But he knows they must find their shooting boots again with big matches coming up.

Dover missed the chance to move away from trouble with a blunt display in Berkshire.

Alan Devonshire’s side secured a scrappy 1-0 win - and it was they who moved five points away from trouble.

Hessenthaler wouldn’t add pressure on his players’ shoulders by overhyping this coming weekend’s match at home to bottom club Braintree Town.

The manager said: “It was one of those games where one goal was always likely to win it.

“They got it, we didn’t. That’s the story of it all really.

“We missed a cutting edge up front and didn’t quite do enough in front of goal but I can’t have a go at these players.

“We didn’t go enough in the final third and we were missing that little bit of quality when it mattered.

“They’ve just come off a great result at Salford so I won’t be having a pop at them. We are still outside tubs bottom four and we need to make sure we still are come the final game of the season.”

On the Braintree fixture, he said: “It’s a big game but they’re all big games.

“This one won’t be any different. It’s another match that we will be trying to win.

“We have accumulated a lot of points since we have come in and we need to just keep battling.”
