Heed’s Interview Process Starts As Manager Search Begins

Gateshead will begin their interview process over the next 24 hours as they search for Neil Aspin’s replacement.

The Heed lost their boss to Port Vale last week and stand in manager Micky Cummins has announced his desire to take the job on.

His time in charge started with a very late 2-1 home defeat to Bromley on Saturday but chairman Richard Bennett says the stand in is in contention. Watch Match Highlights Here.

“We have had a tremendous response,” said the International Stadium chief.

“Within the first few days we have 50 applicants and we have now a shortlist of seven. The quality has been excellent and we are delighted with that.

“Monday and Tuesday we are going to get some interviews going and may have an appointment before the FA Cup game at the weekend.”

On Cummins, Bennett says he is in the frame for the job on a full time basis..

“Micky is interested in the post and he is in contention,” the chairman said. “He is a great coach and we get on well, so along with others he will be considered for the job.”

Aspin returned to Port Vale last week hoping to keep his former club from becoming a National League club next season.
