Torquay United found the trip to England’s North East too much. The long journey wasn’t a fruitful one and the Gulls came away having been defeated 3-0.
Only a great performance from Torquay goalkeeper Ryan Clarke prevented Gateshead not running up a big scoreline and Aspin, their manager, was delighted with the performance of his players.
After an opening day defeat at Woking, it’s two wins in a row at the International Stadium following Tuesday evening’s narrow win vs Guiseley.
He knows keeping results positive in front of their own supporters could bring a successful season to Tyneside.
“It’s two wins from two here which is great, that’s a real plus,” Aspin said.
“We need to keep things going, it’s a pleasing performance and I’ve got to say the response since we lost to Woking I’m really happy with.
“In the first half we played really well,” Aspin added. “The home form is going to be really important again.”
Gateshead’s results on the road will be tested on Tuesday. Aspin takes his team to Wrexham looking to build on the six points already gained.
