Heed Players Aren't Doing Their Jobs, Fumes Boss Watson

Gateshead boss Steve Watson was left disappointed despite seeing his side battle back to earn a point at rivals Hartlepool United.

Keith Watson scored twice for Pools either side of a Richard Peniket strike and Wes York gave Heed a point with his equaliser ten minutes from the end.

The two sides also drew 2-2 on Boxing Day and Watson was critical of his side’s defending which left his side chasing the game at Victoria Park.

“We peppered the goal and their goalie has made some great saves, especially in the second half,” he told the club’s website.

“We showed great spirit to come from behind twice away from home in a local derby but, ultimately, we’ve handed them two goals again.

“You can’t legislate for that. You can work all week, you can set your tactics out but people have been given jobs and they haven’t done them.

“Obviously the buck stops with me because I’m the manager but there’s not much you can do about it once the players go onto the pitch.”
