Hawley Proud Of Players On Managerial Bow

Caretaker manager Karl Hawley feels the Boston United players were rightly applauded off despite a narrow defeat to Salford City on Tuesday night.

In what has been a challenging time, the Vanarama National League club are with a manager following Adam Murray’s resignation at the weekend.

He felt he could take the Pilgrims no further and called it a day on Saturday night in the aftermath of a home defeat to Brackley Town.

Former Carlisle United striker Hawley agreed to step in while a replacement is found and was thrilled with the attitude of the players.

Although they went down 1-0 to new leaders Salford, the stand-in says it was a display of promise.

“I would like to say well done to the players,” Hawley told the National League’s Oli Orborn. “To come out and play like that considering the current circumstances against a team as strong as Salford showed a lot of guts.

“Everybody was devastated at the new of Adam leaving. He bought in the majority of the squad who are here now.

“The players know that at times they not only let themselves down, but Adam down as well.

“It’s part of football though as we all know and you’ve got to move on and move forward.

“The fans here and not stupid. They know the players gave everything and that they were very unlucky not to get a point at the very least.”
