Stockport County managed to fend of Evo-Stik NPL North Lancaster City in testing conditions - the 3-1 win sealing their passage through.
With his team safely in the hat for Monday’s draw, Gannon now wants wins against Curzon and their double header with Alfreton to set them up perfectly going into the New Year.
“It was a good group effort, a good team effort,” Gannon told the club’s YouTube channel. “Lancaster got their shape right, they were mindful of Jason (Oswell) and had three centre-backs on him.
“It’s one defeat in nine, looking at the fixtures that now we’ve got games that we need to be winning if we want to be contenders.
“We looked strong in the first half. We knew we had to play a bit more direct and to an extent it worked.
“If we put in the effort we’ve put in here at Lancaster and against Spennymoor and improve in certain areas like set pieces then there is every chance going into the New Year being in the play-off places and still in the FA Trophy.
“We’ve done the business in the games so far, and the lads are really starting to graft and grind out the results.”
