Harrogate Town's Fantastic 4-0 Start A 'Relief' For Weaver

Harrogate Town reaped the rewards for being full-time as they started their Vanarama National League North campaign with a fine 4-0 over Nuneaton Town.

A Jordan Thewlis brace, one from George Thomson and a late Simon Ainge penalty gave Town the perfect start.

The club moved to a full-time programme this summer and after a promising pre-season, their hard work was rewarded with this thumping win.

You won't find boss Simon Weaver getting carried away though, as he told the club's website: "There's a bit of relief, but now that it's settling in, it's satisfying as well. It was a convincing win but we're not going to get carried away with it because you see some results on the opening day and then people don't follow it up.

"I said before the game that it would be nice for the supporters to go away happy but also to take in what we're about and hopefully we've got a clear identity. We're not getting overly excited but we'll allow ourselves to enjoy this weekend.

"It's a new era being full-time, we can all take pride in that the ground looks smart and the lads in their kit as well. It's an exciting time to be involved and my position is a privilege. We have to make the most of this opportunity and try and grow the game locally."

Harrogate travel to North Ferriby United on Tuesday, who lost 4-0 to Curzon Ashton yesterday.
