Happy Limbrick Wins On His Woking Debut

By David Richardson

There would have been few managers happier at 5pm today than Woking's Anthony Limbrick.

The 34-year-old was making his managerial debut with the Cards and marked the landmark with a win over Gateshead.

Striker Inih Effiong put Woking ahead after 18 minutes but Danny Johnson equalised for the visitors.

However, Joe Ward struck on the stroke of half-time and that proved to be the decisive blow.

Limbrick was, unsurprisingly, elated with his side's performance and also impressed with tricky winger Ward, he said: "To get off to a good start with some tough fixtures coming up and in front of the home fans is really pleasing. We’ve worked so hard over pre-season so there’s a little bit of relief, I guess, to have a good performance.

"I thought Joe was very good in the first-half. He was a threat down the left side. I thought he was going to take a touch for his goal but for him to take it first time and finish, he was so cool and calm there.

"He was a big player in the game and terrorised the full-back."
