Gulls Shot Down But Owers Keeps His Cool

Torquay United manager Gary Owers refused to be downbeat despite a home loss to ten man Hartlepool stunting their recent recovery.

The Gulls went down 2-0 at Plainmoor on a day when most of their rivals down the bottom picked up points.

Owers knows his team are improving and wouldn’t be critical regardless of United’s day to forget.

“It is very easy to be negative and react off the result,” said Owers, who joined the club from Bath City last month.

“I thought in the first half we played really well and created enough chances to win the game.

“That’s a weakness of ours that we couldn’t take those chances when they were on offer and paid the consequences in the second half.

“The game went into a little bit of a lull with the stoppage,” he told the club’s website following today’s defeat.

“Hartlepool were down to 10 men and slowed the game right down and obviously, we were punished with what I think was their first shot on target.”

Torquay’s FA Cup exit at the hands of Aldershot Town means they don’t play again until November 11 when Owers’ team host Maidstone United.
