Gulls Get Themselves A New Striker.. And A New Captain As Well!

Torquay United have a new forward - and his potential strike-partner will be wearing the armband.

Andre Wright returns to the Gulls and he is no stranger to the club’s supporters.

He played there on loan from West Brom three seasons ago and made a good impression.

Brett Williams is expected to lead the line after being confirmed as the club’s new captain.

The former Aldershot striker says it’s “an honour” to be skipper as the club look to earn promotion from the National League South at the first time of asking.

“I’ve brought Andre because I think he has an enormous amount of potential, but has to show us that quickly,” manager Gary Owers told the club’s website. “I think he’s another strong and physical player to play up top.

“He’ll add a bit of everything and he’s another one of those players that needs to find a home. I’ve taken a few young players that I think I can work with and make better and he’s one of them.

“In fairness to him he’s a little behind the rest of the lads in terms of his fitness, so we will have to tread carefully for a couple of weeks whilst we get him up to speed.”
