The Gulls are sitting pretty at the top of the National League South and now have a seven point cushion from second-placed Woking.
Goals from Jamie Reid, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Jake Andrews saw off the Clarets and Johnson had nothing but praise.
"The lads did us proud again," he told the club's video service. "I told the boys at half-time that we’ve got to trust our training and it’s all about what we do day in, day out.
"We talked about a boxer who keeps jabs and jabs because we kept putting them under pressure. We were due that knockout punch and we certainly got it with those two goals in the second-half.
"As the game went on, we got more and more confident and comfortable on the pitch."
A huge showdown with Woking on Saturday could all but seal the title for the leaders.
And although Johnson knows they're close, he is calling for calm heads amongst the camp.
"Woking is still a key game, but this was a key game going into the Woking game. You look at our fixtures over the last five games, they’re all in play-off contention.
"These boys have come through a very difficult patch and they’ve come up trumps.
"We need to keep calm but also know that we’re not a million miles away. An extra bit of professionalism between now and the final week will be handy."
