Grit And Determination Behind Darts’ Big Win

Dartford secured victory in Saturday’s battle of the joint leaders and their manager put it down to being gritty.

Tony Burman reflected on the narrow 2-1 victory over St Albans City which moves the Kent club two points clear at the top in the Vanarama National League South.

An early Elliot Bradbrook goal got them off and under way but when Charlie Walker struck Saints level, it needed an own goal on the hour from Tom Bender to hand the hosts the three points.

It was a big win for Burman’s team over a big rival at the top and he knew the key ingredient to their success.

He said: “Looking back on Saturday it was an important three points, even though it is still very early in the season.

“I thought we played well in the first half and it was disappointing to come in at 1-1 but in the second, one we found that goal, we real had to dig in.

“St Albans are a good side, the league table tells you that. We knew they would throw everything at us but we dug in and that was key. We were resolute and in this league that is what you need.”

Burman is pleased the Darts now go into the weekend’s big FA Cup first round tie against Swindon Town with back-to-back wins under their belt.

“You need form going into Cup ties looking to cause an upset,” he said.

“Now it’s about preparing well and giving ourselves the best chance possible against a really good Swindon side.”
