After celebrating landing the National League Manager of the Month hours before, Tommy Widdrington stated his case for the December accolade!

Scott’s winning goal in the 89th minute at Edgeley Park set up a trip to Championship West Brom.

He’s only on a week-to-week deal with the Hampshire club but there’s little doubt he’ll get his reward now after banking £67,000 in prize money for his club and a potential six-figure tie at the Hawthorns.

The manager said: “I just said to the lads before that we’ve already gone toe-to-toe with the best team in League Two, we need to do it one more time.

“To a man, they ran themselves into the ground. I was actually looking up at the clock and considering substitutions for extra time, then he popped up with the goal. It was a wonderful moment for everyone.

“Ollie is on non contract terms with us up until now because he’s had an issue with his hamstring. I’m sure I can ask the chairman about that now!”

The match winner told the BBC: “It was a hell of a shift from the players. The manager told me to just be myself when I came on and I’m so happy to score.

“We’re all excited and if we play like we did tonight, then we’ll give them a good game.”
