Great FA Cup Upsets - National League Edition

By David Richardson

The FA Cup second round weekend is almost upon us so we've taken a look back at some of the best upsets in the competition's history, involving current and former National League clubs.

Norwich City 0 Luton Town 1 - 26/01/2013
Scott Rendell made history as Luton became the first Non-League club to beat a Premier League side. The now Aldershot Town striker struck ten minutes from time to send Luton into the fifth round for the first time since 1994.

Burnley 0 Lincoln City 1 - 18/02/2017
It was the big story of last season's competition as the National League's Lincoln became the first Non-League side to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup since 1914. Sean Raggett was the Imps hero as his late header stunned top flight Burnley on their own patch.

Sutton United 2 Coventry City 1 - 07/01/1989
Before Luton and the Premier League era came Sutton’s giant killing of First Division side Coventry City. Matthew Hanlan struck the telling blow in front of 8,000 at Gander Green Lane.

Wrexham 2 Arsenal 1 - 04/01/1992
The final ten minutes of this third round tie were arguably the best in FA Cup history as Wrexham, bottom of the Football League, scored twice to topple the First Division champions.

West Bromwich Albion 2 Woking 4 - 05/01/1991
Trailing 1-0 at half-time to the Second Division's West Brom, Woking, of the Diadora League, pulled off an incredible second half turnaround. Tim Buzaglo hit a mesmerising hat-trick to write himself into FA Cup folklore.

Hereford United 2 Newcastle United 1 - 05/02/1972
Regarded by many as the best FA Cup shock ever, Ronnie Radford's iconic long-range goal saw Non-League Hereford defeat top flight Newcastle.
