National League North City have completed the signing of the 21-year-old as he left Harrogate in search of more regular football.
He thinks he will be able to get that with York - and after going up last season he is keen to repeat the trick.
This will be Wright’s second spell at Bootham Crescent after the forward spent time on loan two seasons ago.
York manager Gray thinks the striker’s experience last season can help his new team-mates.
He told the club’s official website: ”He has won a promotion and had a taste of success which is important.
"I did a lot of work at the back end of the season, collating as much information as possible from Sheffield United, and he comes with a glowing reference.
“He caught the eye against us last season and scored in the game at Bootham Crescent. He has good energy, his all-round game is good, and he is a great finisher. His goals-to-game ratio with Harrogate last season was very high.
“He has turned Harrogate down to come here which is great. I hope he has a great season and helps get us where we need to go.”
