Gray Confident Of Promotion Challenge

York City boss Martin Gray says he thinks the squad is strong enough to be aiming for top spot.

Gray has been in charge of the Minstermen for three matches so far, with a win, draw and loss gained so far, writes Tom Feaheny.

"We are in a position where we are going to challenge – no question about that - but we have got to get back to some consistency," Gray said to the club's website.

"It's early days, we are just in the club, three weeks in. For me it should have been two wins and a draw.

"We know what we need to improve. We will get better. There is a good group of players there but they have got to get better at doing the individual basics right.

Gray said with a third of the season now gone, the side can still realistically be going for top place and an automatic return to the Vanarama National League.

"We have a great chance to go onto challenge for the championship. What have we got? 80 points to play for? There's a lot of points to play for. We are not halfway through the season."
