Goals Galore On Big National League And FA Cup Evening

By Sam Elliott

It was a brilliant FA Cup and National League night which produced plenty of drama and lots and lots of goals.

It’s York City who pocket a six-figure cheque after making it through to round two - securing a televised tie with Wigan Athletic in the process.

Two goals from Lenell John-Lewis did the job against a determined Chester, who battled on until the full-time whistle but the Minstermen went through 2-1.

It wasn’t to be for Slough Town, who despite a brave first half comeback were hit for seven at Grimsby Town. Scarborough Athletic also had a tough night as League Two Forest Green punished the Seadogs as they hit five.

It was a big night in the National League North - especially at the top.

Leaders Scunthorpe United were gunned down at King’s Lynn Town, Josh Coulson and George Morrison's double did for the pace-setters.

South Shields turned on the style at Spennymoor Town to give the teams at the top plenty to think about.

Paul Blackett’s first half double was added to by Aaron Martin and Lirak Hasan after half-time. Blackett completed his hat-trick in the closing stages.

But it's Tamworth who take over the leadership - a late winner from Nathan Tshikuna at Bishop's Stortford was a big boost for the out-of-form Lambs.

Tom Leak’s wonder goal got Boston United going against Peterborough Sports before Kelsy Mooney made the points safe for the Pilgrims. Danny Newton and Shepherd Murombedzi scored as Brackley beat Gloucester City.

Chorley made the most of Darlington going down to ten men after five minutes as they strolled to an 8-0 win. Justin Johnson scored again for the promotion chasers as Haywood Whitehouse scored a brilliant hat-trick.

Stefan Mols and James Spencer scored in the first half to helped Curzon Ashton on their way to a win over Blyth Spartans. Adam Rooney got back on the goal trail as Hereford defeated Banbury United 4-1.

Yeovil Town cruised to a 14th win in a row as they defeated Farnborough 4-2. Jordan Young got on the scoresheet three times as the Glovers took control of the National League South.

Goals from Alex Wall, Luke Coulson and Jordan Wynter before the break gave Alan Dowson’s Dartford a big victory against fellow play-off chasers Worthing in a 4-3 thriller on the south coast.

Braintree were also brilliant in the first half. Shaquile Coulthirst, Aaron Blair and Matt Ward got the job done early for the Iron at home to Welling United.

Maidstone kept Dover Athletic still looking for a first win since August 12, Levi Amantchi scored again.

Tonbridge win again and Jordan Greenidge scored another as they won 3-0 at strugglers Eastbourne Borough.
