Goal King Gilchrist Gets His Hands On North Golden Boot

By Sam Elliott

He had two clubs, three different managers, international recognition and by the end of the season he found himself with a Golden Boot.

It’s fair to say few people outside of Manchester had heard too much about Jason Gilchrist going into the new campaign. That soon changed.

But before long he was widely seen as the big attacking talent of the Vanarama National League North. Southport paid an undisclosed fee for the 23-year-old to take him from FC United five months ago.

Whatever the price tag was, it didn’t prove to be a millstone around his neck.

Despite brave efforts from Stockport County’s Jason Oswell, a late push by Brackley striker Aaron Williams and a fine first six months from York City’s Jon Parkin, Gilchrist held first at the top of the tally chart.

He will have another new manager in the form of Liam Watson next season and the Southport legend’s job is already a whole lot easier with Gilchrist on the books!
