Ginnelly Makes Tranmere Loan Switch Until Season`s End

Tranmere Rovers have completed the signing of young winger Josh Ginnelly on loan until the end of the season from Premier League club Burnley.

The 20-year-old was in the youth ranks at Aston Villa before going on to do a two-year scholarship with Shrewsbury Town.

Then Shrews manager Micky Mellon handed Ginnelly his Football League debut at the age of 17 when he came on as a substitute against Luton Town, before making a further two appearances for the club.

In August 2015, he joined Burnley for an undisclosed fee and has been a part of the Clarets’ development squad.

To gain further senior experience, Ginnelly first went out on loan to National League Altrincham in 2015/16 where he played twenty-one games and scored 5 goals.

At the beginning of the following season, he made a temporary move to League One Walsall before spending the second half of the campaign with Lincoln City, helping the club to the National League title and promotion into the Football League.

He re-joined the Red Imps on loan at the beginning of this season and made nineteen appearances, scoring 3 goals for the League Two outfit.

Rovers manager Micky Mellon said of the signing: "I’m really pleased to add Josh to the group.

“He is a talented young player and someone I know well having working with him previously, so I’m excited about working with him again here at Tranmere.

“I’d like to thank Sean Dyche and Burnley for allowing him to join us”.
