Gill Won't Hide His Enthusiasm About Bath's Progress

Jerry Gill is refusing to hide his excitement about the new season while many manager are quick to remind fans July means next to nothing.

Bath City’s confidence was there for all to see as they put six goals past Bristol Rovers’ top U23 talent on Saturday.

The Romas welcome Dartford to Twerton Park on the opening day of the season, now less than a fortnight away.

It can’t come soon enough for the manager as he summed up a great day to Somerset Live.

"As you could see again, there was some exhilarating play; some really, really good spells of possession; some effective play; lots of players running forward; lots of forward passes; lots of space found by some really good football players, and some clinical finishing as well to boot,” he said.

"I have to be purring about the attacking stuff. I still think there's stuff defensively to work on.

"We haven't really had enough sessions to do it, because it's game, game, game and we only get them twice a week.

"I'll look forward to doing some defensive phases with them for sure, working on some distances and making sure we're really tight as a unit - and between our units - and as a team.

"Then I'm pretty sure with the players we've now got in the team, we're going to score goals this season."

But he urged caution, saying: "I sense the group have got a really good spirit about them as well. They're good lads, they're together and it's gone up a notch from last year.

"But I'm not going to get carried away with it by any means. We've got a lot of work to do, but we're getting there."
