Giants Collide As TNT Sports All Set For Live Showdown

By Sam Elliott

David Unsworth says Chesterfield are already the team to beat but is planning to pull the rug from under them again this weekend.

The Spireites have shone so far, winning three from three meaning they are the only side left in the division with a 100 per cent record.

Oldham visit for the live lunchtime TNT Sports match after a forgettable first few matches, with a great win over Aldershot sandwiched between two painful defeats.

The Latics have invested this summer but Unsworth says Paul Cook’s side are the frontrunners already with ten goals scored against Dorking Wanderers, AFC Fylde and Oxford City.

But he remembers back to February when Devarn Green‘s winner earned his club a 1-0 win in this fixture to aid their climb up the table.

The Oldham boss knows his players need to be better than they were on Tuesday night, a 2-1 home defeat to FC Halifax was a frustration for many reasons.

He said: “Every game is a big game in this league, and anyone can beat anyone - just as we showed last season when we went to Chesterfield and beat them.

“They are the team to beat, they’ve got a good team. Cooky has got them playing well and they’ve been in good form. They’re scoring goals but conceding them as well.

“It’s was disappointing result on Tuesday, we weren’t as good as we were against Aldershot on Saturday.

“Some nights you have just got to play badly and win, and we couldn’t manage that. Even if I feel we should have had a penalty.

“We had enough chances to win the game. It’s early stages in the season. We’ve got Saturday and Tuesday games and the lads are still getting up to speed.”

Cook’s assistant Danny Webb told the Derbyshire Times that he too has memories of Oldham’s win on their turf last season.
"You always look forward to a big game when you are on a good run,” Webb said.

"I would imagine that Oldham would prefer a couple more points on the board but last year they were having a sticky time and they came here and won, albeit I thought we played really well that day.

"Oldham will bring a few fans and we will have a really loud home crowd cheering us on to hopefully keep us top of the league but we know it is going to be tough.”
