Gateshead Must Improve To Turn Draws Into Wins

By David Richardson

Neil Aspin accepts Gateshead need to improve if they are to turn draws into wins like today's result against Boreham Wood.

Wes York put the hosts in front but Ricky Shakes struck three minutes from time to give Wood a share of the points.

The Heed have drawn five games this season and must get better in the opinion of Aspin.

"It's always disappointing when you have the lead and you concede a late goal," he said. "Overall I'd need to watch the game again but I'd have liked to see us push on more when we were ahead.

"We had a couple of chances but not enough to kill the game off. As long as the game stays 1-0 you always know you can get pegged back.

"There were some pleasing aspects. We did more in terms of efforts at goal. I'd have liked us to have more possession.

"Boreham Wood have a lot of good players at this level. Everyone in the league is a stern test and we're not in a position where we can feel that we're too good against anyone.

"We weren't at our best today. We need to keep improving and trying to get better. If we do that, instead of drawing we'll end up winning these games."
