After two weeks of training and two matches as well, the manager told the club's website, they are seeing the benefits of the sessions they have taken part in so far, writes Tom Feaheny.
"We are trying to set out patterns of play, I think we can fine tune in the final third, but we are only half-way through our pre-season, we know more is to come from the lads.
"I feel the players haven't had to pull their reserves in yet, the lads are playing the 45 then look like they can do it again, I expect that after a tough amount of training for us."
"I want the lads to know their jobs inside out and their fitness levels are ensuring we can make sure that happens."
Ryan Johnson joined the Vanarama National League side on loan from Stevenage with Garrard pleased to have the player available with the club for the 2017/18 season.
"I know Ryan from a previous time with him, he gives us a balance, his delivery is very good, it will be tough in the National League but he will have to change his game and that is something he can do."
Garrard was also full of praise for winger Bruno Andrade and said he brings something special to the table.
"I've got the best wide man in the league, on his day when he gets it right there is no one better than him."
