But when Billy Priestly was shown a straight red card in the first half, it seemed like today was the day to end the hoodoo, writes Tom Scott.
The home side held out for more than an hour with ten men before Connor Dimaio scored his first goal for the visitors to catapult Gannon’s men to fourth in the table.
After the game, Gannon told the club’s YouTube channel that he was happy that his side had so much to show for all their hard work.
“It could’ve gone either way,” he said. “They’ll be devastated because the ten men worked really hard to stay in the game and they’ll be gutted to concede because at that stage.
“I’m delighted with the win because we’d have been extremely disappointed to play with eleven men for a large part of the game and not get a goal and not get a win.
“I’m really pleased with the lads because it’s been a tough week, but they’ve dug deep again today but it’s nice to have six points at the end of the week.”
He added, “We’ve shown in the last three games that we can compete with the best so we’re just going to keep doing that all the way through August.”
