Gannon: Cup Run Is Great But We Must Focus On League Form

Stockport County boss Jim Gannon isn’t getting carried away with his side’s FA Cup run and insists the league will be the best measure of success.

The Hatters saw off League Two Yeovil Town on Saturday and Gannon said he hoped the fans would savour the win for some time.

“I’ve enjoyed some special days here as a player and a manager but is a special day for the players and the fans who perhaps have never experienced this sort of feeling with this club.

“We worked so hard and we were so professional and disciplined and I’m pleased for the lads because we’re on a really good journey.

“I wanted to spend as much time as I could with the fans to thank them for the effort they made to come down today because they were the twelfth man for us and I’m really pleased for them because they’ve not had that feeling for a while.”

But Gannon was adamant that he wanted his side to continue their fine work in the league so far this season, immediately turning his attention to Saturday’s clash with Brackley Town.

“I will be judged on what we do in the league and we’ve got a tough couple of months coming up so we’ll enjoy what we’ve done today and saviour the moment, but the work begins again this week to prepare for a tough league game, and that’s a huge test for us.

“But I’d like to see us win and consolidate what we’ve been doing because the real measure of what we’ve been doing all season is where we finish in the league.”
