Stockport moved to within four points of the Magpies after a narrow 1-0 win at Leamington last night.
It was their seventh win on the spin even if Gannon accepted a heavy workload meant his team weren’t at their fluid best.
"Chorley are still the favourites," he said. "We're paying for a slow start to the season but to get to 50 points already for the season was a big boost.
“We have had some very challenging midweek away matches recently.
“Ashton United and Spennymoor were both very difficult so to come away with three wins from these is fantastic.
“Its a testament to the professionalism of the players.
“Especially after Saturday. They worked very hard to beat York City and I think maybe that’s a bit of the reason why maybe one or two weren’t 100 per cent.
“Hopefully they can keep doing what they’re doing and getting the results.”
“At the moment the team is looking solid, it’s hard working and they are difficult to beat,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.
