Gainsborough Out To Prove Their Doubters Wrong

Dave Frecklington's Gainsborough Trinity are on a mission to prove their doubters wrong and hold their own in the National League North.

Trinity survived by one point last season but are adamant they can pull off some surprise results this time around.

And they've been preparing for the new season with some tough pre-season friendlies against higher opposition.

National League FC Halifax Town and Football League Lincoln City, Rotherham United and Mansfield Town have all visited Northolme this summer.

Manager Frecklington purposely arranged these tests to prepare his side for a challenging campaign.

"I think we'll surprise a few teams this year," he told the club's website. "Everyone's written us off which is something that has brought us together. We're the favourites with the bookies. Everyone's pulling us down saying that we aren't good enough for this level.

"We're working on a way to upset one or two teams with a very high intensity. We work really hard, I doubt many teams will work as hard as us.

"Playing these friendlies is only going to test us for when we come up against the full-time outfits that can work every day on things. All these big ex-Football League clubs that are in the league, we need to find a way to match them up."
