From Making Coffee To Silver Service, Danny Is Delivering

He’s poured the coffee behind the kiosk, done his fair share of the washing up and helped turn Danny Cowley into the manager he is today.

Danny Scopes is Concord Rangers through-and-through and now he is back trying to write another chapter in his romance novel with the club. If the 5-0 win over Eastbourne last weekend is anything to go by, it’s another love story.

The Beachboys boss is six months into his latest return to the club he just can’t stay away from.

Chairman Ant Smith will probably have to take a restraining order out to get the Rangers legend to eventually cut ties - but that doesn’t look like happening any time soon.

“Sometimes you just get attached,” he told Vanarama. “A little too attached some may say!

“I have pretty much done everything from served drinks to managing the team twice. Washing, cleaning I have done it all here. Well, you’ve got to, haven’t you?

“Even when I wasn’t involved I would still go home and away when I could cheering on the team. That’s what happens when you have a close affiliation with a club.

“It’s been great being back as manager. I jumped at the chance in the summer as clearly I know what I’m getting myself into!

“The place is close to my heart. I left the manager’s post originally because my business was growing. You have to be able to dedicate time to the job or you just can’t do it but let’s be honest, Nicky and Danny Cowley didn’t do too badly!”

He says so many people can learn from the double act who cut their teeth at the club.

“You look at them now having already turned Huddersfield Town around and you can’t feel anything accept pride,” he said.

“I knew when they were part time here as teachers that they gave every second they could to it. I remember thinking ‘if they do this much when they’re part time, how good are they going to be when someone gives them a full time chance?’

“People can learn so much from them - they will never forget where the came from, or the chance they were given by Concord and that speaks volumes for them.”

Danny says stability is the key going forward - and getting a team on the pitch everyone can be proud of.

“It’s a bit of a transitional time in a way,” he added. “Last year we tried to get the buzz back a bit, now we need to be shopping in slightly different supermarkets but we are more than comfortable with that.

“The National League South is a demanding division but it’s where we want to be. We’ve got to keep rising to the challenges.”
