Frecklington Brings In Ex-Chelsea Full-Back

Gainsborough Trinity boss Dave Frecklington bolstered his defence options with the signing of Ben Gordon in time for him to be included on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Spennymoor Town on Saturday.

Twenty-six-year-old full-back Gordon started his career as a youth at Leeds United, where he gained international recognition, appearing for England at Schoolboy level, up to under-20 whilst at current Premier League champions, Chelsea.

During his time at Chelsea, he went out on loan a number of times to clubs of the calibre of Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United and Birmingham City.

Following his release from Stamford Bridge, the energetic Gordon spent time at Yeovil and Colchester United before dropping into the non-League game, where he played for the likes of Chester FC, Bradford Park Avenue, Woking and Lincolnshire neighbours, Boston United, where he made more than twenty appearances, scoring one goal.

It was in fact the Pilgrims who were Gordon’s last club, having been unattached since his departure from the Jakeman’s Stadium at the end of last season.

Of his latest signing, Trinity boss Dave Frecklington told the club`s website: "Ben has been training with us now for a good week or so, he's a player we like and someone we wanted to bring to the club. He has good experience, along with a fantastic pedigree and also has a good know how, which we sometimes lack a little bit of. He is working towards getting fit but we are delighted to get the deal over the line in time for tomorrow’s game with Spennymoor".
