Former Fans Favourite Returns To Gainsborough

Former favourite Simon Russell has re-joined Gainsborough Trinity from struggling league rivals North Ferriby United.

The 32-year-old midfielder played 126 times and scored 26 goals for Trinity between January 2013 and June 2016 before following former boss Steve Housham to Ferriby.

Russell started out at Hull City but after failing to get into the side there, he opted to join Kidderminster Harriers.

He made 134 appearances for Harriers, netting 14 goals before eventually leaving Aggborough after four years and joined York City in August 2008.

He was sent out on loan to Tamworth and Cambridge United before joining the latter on a permanent basis in May 2010.

He then moved on to Lincoln City before dropping into non-League football with Alfreton and then Gainsborough.
