Foiled Keates: Wrexham Must Up Their Game

By Sam Elliott

Wrexham manager Dan Keates called for more from his players after the club slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club Nantwich.

It wasn’t the Red Dragons day in Cheshire and the manager wants improvement in their remaining pre-season matches.

Macclesfield visit North Wales for the opening game of the Vanarama National League season in 14 days’ time.

The Racecourse boss wants to see improvement after their low-key defeat to the Dabbers.

“We were a little better in the second half,” said Keates after watching Welshman Jordan Davis fire in the only goal of the game.

“There was a reaction after the break but it wasn’t really enough.

“Overall you have got to say it was a bit of a disappointing performance from the team.

“I’ve got to be honest and say the first half performance was nowhere near the level of what we expect.

“Fair play to Nantwich, but the mentality to this football club is to win matches and we were well off it for most of the game.”
