Fleet Finally Beaten Away By League Leaders

Ebbsfleet United's long unbeaten away run came to an end at league leaders Macclesfield Town yesterday and boss Daryl McMahon had no complaints in losing to a good side.

It was Fleet's first away defeat in 18 matches, spanning over ten months as the Silkmen retained top spot with a 1-0 win.

Mitchell Hancox's goal before half-time was enough to end Ebbsfleet's impressive run.

“If you’re going to lose it, you’re going to lose it to a good side and they are," said McMahon. "But I felt it didn’t have to end today because I thought we did enough to get something out of the game.

“We probably missed chances at key times and missed too many good chances really. You’ve got to be a bit more clinical. You can’t come to a side as good as Macclesfield and miss some of the chances we did and expect to get something out of the game.”

“I was pleased with the performance. Probably the first 10 minutes of the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second half we weren’t great. Other than that I thought we were a team that was always a threat, looking to create chances.

"We were unlucky, I think we could have easily got a point today but they’re a good side and I wish them all the best for the season.”
